Coatech was appointed by BAM Nuttall to install the Epoxy Resin floor works in the newly built £9.8 million R.N.L.I Lifeboat Station, Porth Dinllaen, Morfa Nefyn, Pwllheli

The Lifeboat station was completed in 2014 and was built to replace the old station and to house the new Tamar Class Lifeboat, ‘John D Spicer’

The specification was for the application of the Degafloor MMA system. The complex installation started with forming the coving to the walls. These were formed using Dural Stainless Steel ‘Birds Beak’ and Edging profiles and installed at various heights (up to 300mm high in places) throughout the lifeboat station. Coving was an important part of the specification to enable the Lifeboat Crew to wash down the boat easily on its return

One complete this was followed by the installation Degafloor QTA, a trowelled quartz system, in the R.N.L.I’s signature Blue to all sloping floors and Degafloor FB to all flat areas. All floors were then sealed with two coats of Degafloor’s Clear Sealer

A rapid curing MMA system was specified for numerous reasons. Firstly as MMA's can be installed at temperatures as low as -30º C, this was well suited to the conditions on site. The station build took place in the middle of winter where temperatures often dropped below 0, and heating on site was not yet installed. Normal Epoxy or Polyurethane Resins could not have been installed in such conditions, but this was no problem for MMA

Also, as the product is extremely fast curing, it meant that the surface could be trafficked again in as little as two hours. This meant that downtime to other trades was an absolute minimum, and areas re-opened to other trades on site as quickly as possible

Not only this, but the R.N.L.I has been left with an extremely heavy duty, durable, easy to clean floor with an Anti-Slip finish, which can withstand the daily exposure to chemicals and salt water
