Caernarfon Promenade

As part of the development of Caernarfon Promenade, the
main element of the works was to install a new surface
dressing to improve the aesthetics of the promenade from
Victoria Dock to the Anglesey Arms Pub

One of the main challenges of the project was the proximity to the sea, meaning that the surface would need to withstand continual exposure to salt water. As Resin Bound surfacing is porous and SuDS compliant, this was the perfect option for the project

A combination of colours using Brittany Bronze, Silver Grey
Granite and Black Basalt mix designs were used in various
locations. Designs such as bicycles, directional arrows and
compasses were incorporated into the surface over the
entire site using custom made stencils

As the new development was going to attract a large
number of visitors, the surface was laid at 18mm thick to
accept vehicular traffic and heavy usage by the public

Aluminium edging was used as a feature to separate the
designs and logos in the surface to provide a crisp modern
image

The Anglesey Arms has also been left with a new
modern looking frontage with cycleway access onto the
promenade, perfect for the sunny evenings on the Menai
Straits

Overall around 3000m² was laid in a very short timescale to
reopen the promenade for the Easter holidays without delay

The project was such a success it went on to win the ICE Wales Project Award for sustainability
