Resin bound stone creates highly appealing, hard-wearing and permeable surfaces for private homes and new housing developments. Natural aggregates are blended with a specially formulated resin, which is hand trowelled to create a smooth and lasting finish. These environmentally friendly systems allow water to permeate the surface and return to the water table. Available in a wide range of colours, surfaces can be customised to complement the natural surroundings. The attractive finish adds instant kerb appeal to your property

We offer a full service, from surveying and specification to groundworks and installation. Planning permission is not required and resin bound stone is SuDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) compliant. It can be laid over existing sound substrates, including macadam, asphalt and concrete

Resin bound stone is incredibly hard-wearing and long-lasting, with a lifespan of approximately 20 years. The finish is UV stable, so the colour of the surface will not fade or taint over time. It is also frost, crack, weed and moss resistant

Due to its resistant properties, resin bound stone requires little maintenance. Periodic sweeping and the occasional light pressure wash will retain its condition for years to come

INSTALLATION

The process begins by placing the aggregates into a forced action mixer. The resin is mixed separately by a slow speed mixing paddle before being added to the stone. The formulation is mixed thoroughly until fully blended. The mixture is then poured onto the substrate and hand-trowelled until a smooth finish is achieved. Glass beads can be scattered over the top to enhance slip resistance. The surface can normally receive light foot traffic after approximately 4 to 6 hours. However, we recommend keeping vehicles off the surface for 24 hours

FAQ

What is the difference between Resin BONDED Stone and Resin BOUND stone?

Whilst similar in name, the two systems have different properties, installation methods and aesthetics. The main differences are:

RESIN BOUND STONE: a smooth, porous surface. The resin and aggregates are blended together in a forced action mixer so they are fully encapsulated. The mix is then hand trowelled to a smooth finish

RESIN BONDED STONE: a textured, high friction surface similar in appearance to loose gravel. The aggregates are scattered by hand into a layer of wet resin and then swept to remove excess loose stone, leaving the ‘bonded’ stone remaining. This system is non-porous and highly slip-resistant

What surfaces can it be installed over?

Any sound sub-base such as tarmac or concrete. We can repair any surface cracks prior to the installation

How is it installed?

The resin and aggregates are blended together in a special forced-action mixer to fully encapsulate the aggregates with resin. The surface is then hand-trowelled to a smooth flat finish by our highly-skilled team

I am interested, but I haven’t got a suitable substrate, can you help?

Yes. If necessary we can arrange for any groundworks you require to be carried out including the installation of a suitable sub-base if required. We can supply the full package. We can also carry out any edging, kerbing or drainage works if required or if you want to make any changes to the area you currently have

How thick is the surface?

Depending upon usage and aggregate size, it will usually be installed at a depth of between 12mm and 24mm. The final thickness is determined by its usage e.g. pedestrian, vehicular etc

How quickly can it be installed?

Dependent upon the size of the area, in many cases we can seamlessly install upwards of 250m² in a day meaning there is minimal disruption

How soon can I use the surface?

The surface can normally receive light foot traffic after approximately 4-6 hours, however we recommend that vehicular traffic is kept of the surface overnight and ideally for 24 hours

How do I keep it clean?

The occasional sweep and light pressure wash is all that is needed to keep your surface looking its best. Resin Bound Stone requires very little maintenance. Our ‘Aftercare and Maintenance’ guide which explains how to keep your surface looking at its best and how to remove common stains
