Resin bound surfacing systems encapsulate aggregates in resin to create a smooth, porous finish that is fully compliant with surface water draining (SuDS) regulations. Typical installation depths vary from 12mm to 24mm and we will specify the correct depth based on your required usage
These UV-resistant, hard-wearing systems deliver a lasting finish that is suitable for both vehicular traffic and pedestrian access
These porous systems allow water to drain through to the water table. This natural drainage reduces the build-up of puddles on the surface
The resins used in Resin Bound surfacing are derived from natural plant sources. The aggregates used within our systems are sourced within the UK
Resin bound surfacing systems do not require planning permission. They are easy to clean and maintain
A wide range of colours are available, which can be used to create a completely customised finish
These surfaces are smooth, flat and seamless, with no loose stones
Resin bound systems are typically laid onto a tarmac base course, which is cleared of detritus and fully cleaned during the preparation stage. To commence the blending process, the aggregate is placed into a forced action mixer. The resin is mixed separately using a slow speed mixing paddle before it is added to the stone. Once fully blended, it is poured onto the base and trowel-applied to achieve a smooth finish. If required, glass beads are then scattered over the surface to enhance its slip-resistant properties. Whilst the surface can accommodate light foot traffic after 4 to 6 hours, we recommend leaving the system to cure for at least 24 hours before being used by pedestrians and vehicles

Whilst similar in name, the two systems have different properties, installation methods and aesthetics. The main differences are:
RESIN BOUND STONE: a smooth, porous surface. The resin and aggregates are blended together in a forced action mixer so they are fully encapsulated. The mix is then hand trowelled to a smooth finish
RESIN BONDED STONE: a textured, high friction surface similar in appearance to loose gravel. The aggregates are scattered by hand into a layer of wet resin and then swept to remove excess loose stone, leaving the ‘bonded’ stone remaining. This system is non-porous and highly slip-resistant
What surfaces can it be installed over?
Any sound sub-base such as tarmac or concrete. We can repair any surface cracks prior to the installation
How is it installed?
The resin and aggregates are blended together in a special forced-action mixer to fully encapsulate the aggregates with resin. The surface is then hand-trowelled to a smooth flat finish by our highly-skilled team
I am interested, but I haven’t got a suitable substrate, can you help?
Yes. If necessary we can arrange for any groundworks you require to be carried out including the installation of a suitable sub-base if required. We can supply the full package. We can also carry out any edging, kerbing or drainage works if required or if you want to make any changes to the area you currently have
How thick is the surface?
Depending upon usage and aggregate size, it will usually be installed at a depth of between 12mm and 24mm. The final thickness is determined by its usage e.g. pedestrian, vehicular etc
How quickly can it be installed?
Dependent upon the size of the area, in many cases we can seamlessly install upwards of 250 m² in a day meaning there is minimal disruption
How soon can I use the surface?
The surface can normally receive light foot traffic after approximately 4-6 hours, however we recommend that vehicular traffic is kept of the surface overnight and ideally for 24 hours
How do I keep it clean?
The occasional sweep and light pressure wash is all that is needed to keep your surface looking its best. Resin Bound Stone requires very little maintenance. Our ‘Aftercare and Maintenance’ guide which explains how to keep your surface looking at its best and how to remove common stains
