What is the difference between Resin BONDED Stone and Resin BOUND stone?
Whilst similar in name, the two systems have different properties, installation methods and aesthetics. The main differences are:
RESIN BOUND STONE: a smooth, porous surface. The resin and aggregates are blended together in a forced action mixer so they are fully encapsulated. The mix is then hand trowelled to a smooth finish
RESIN BONDED STONE: a textured, high friction surface similar in appearance to loose gravel. The aggregates are scattered by hand into a layer of wet resin and then swept to remove excess loose stone, leaving the ‘bonded’ stone remaining. This system is non-porous and highly slip-resistant
Resin Bonded Stone is a very resilient system utilising technologies developed for highway surfacing in high friction areas such as roundabouts and junctions. As such areas with high levels of trafficking are no problem, making it a perfect system for driveways
For normal domestic use, the functional life span of Resin Bonded surfacing is about 8-15 years
What can it be installed on?
Resin Bonded Surfacing can be installed onto good smooth concrete or onto a tarmac wearing course
How long does it take to install?
The installation of a Resin Bonded Stone driveway is typically a 3-day process. All preparation works and surface repairs (if required) are carried out on Day 1. On Day 2 the installation is carried out and on Day 3 the surface is given its final sweep
Will the stone become loose?
After its initial sweep on completion, it is normal once trafficked for approximately 1-5% of stone to come loose over the lifetime of the surface. In no way does this affect the performance or integrity of the surface
How long before I can use my new surface?
It is fine to walk on the surface approximately 4-6 hours after installation. We recommend that vehicles are kept off the surface overnight for approximately 24 hours
How thick is the surface?
Normal thickness for this system is around 3-5mm dependent on the size of aggregate chosen
How large an area can you install in a day?
Up to 1000m2 can be installed in a day, meaning your area is installed in no time at all, without the need for any joints in the surface
Will I need planning permission?
As every project is bespoke, it is difficult to give an exact cost without a site visit to look at what work is involved. Several factors affect cost such as:
- The area
- The base on which it is to be laid upon
- Choice of aggregate
- Any preparation or additional works required
As a rough indication, prices start from approximately £40 per m2

Yes. If necessary, we can arrange for any groundworks you require to be carried out including the installation of a suitable sub-base if required. We can supply the full package. We can also carry out any edging, kerbing or drainage works if required or if you want to make any changes to the area you currently have
